Including graduate school, I’ve had nine different clinical supervisors. Of those nine, I’d only describe three as advantageous to my professional development while others provided traumatic and harmful experiences. I hope in your decision making process, you know what to expect when working with me and feel prepared to participate in supervision.
Clinical Supervision should not feel like a waste of time. You should look forward to it as it is a time to:
Get your questions answered
Discover your niche: who you do and don’t like working with and why
Fine tune your clinical note skills and documentation
Explore your theoretical orientation, test new techniques or interventions, or anything you have contemplated trying
I am a WA State Approved Supervisor for post-grad Master’s level clinicians seeking licensure.
As your clinical supervisor, I accept some responsibility for the work you do with your clients, both good and bad. Essentially, my license is on the line with every client you take on and I risk what you choose to do with those clients.
Although we will have scheduled weekly or biweekly meetings, I am available to you for urgent situations at all times. So ultimately when you think about it, is supervision and your professional clinical growth something you want to get a deal on? You tend to put more time and effort into that invested time.
Philosophy of Supervision:
A collaborative process reaching the goals you’re seeking toward your growth and development as a therapist
Systemic approach
This means I respect the intersections of one’s life which includes, but not limited to, their relationships, friendships, family, profession, race, ethnicity, sexuality, sex, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, etc. I believe these factors impact a person’s past and present. I take the same approach when working with supervisees.
