EMDR Trauma Therapy & Intensives

All services are provided via telehealth

Are you tired of carrying the weight of the past? Have you had a painful experience that changed your life? Do you feel that who you were and how you see the world are not the same anymore? Do you feel lost and wonder if you will ever feel like yourself again? Do you feel stuck? Do your family and friends care, but don’t know what to do either?

People find me when their old coping strategies stop working. You need someone who understands and can help you put the pieces back together.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a trauma treatment to decrease your symptoms from emotionally uncomfortable situations. Utilizing this structured approach, EMDR encourages bilateral stimulation which allows the brain and body to process and reduce the vividness and emotion associated to the distressing memory. It involves minimal talking and was created as an alternative form of healing so you don’t have to verbally explain the distressing event over and over again. EMDR focuses on a specific event or core theme surrounding various events from your life. Accordingly, if we can heal the root issue, your present day issues may be easier to handle.

What will the EMDR therapeutic process look like?

What is EMDR?

"Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders." - © 1995-2021 EMDRIA EMDR International Association.

It is an 8 phase trauma treatment protocol that includes resourcing (coping and grounding skills), history taking, and reprocessing. It is a special technique that does not require you to verbally disclose the details of your trauma, as verbal processing can often be re-traumatizing.

Our brains have a natural way to recover from traumatic memories and events. Sometimes this natural recovery process can't be resolved without help. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, signs of trauma like those above will diminish or disappear once EMDR therapy is complete.

How long does EMDR take?

There is no set amount of time it takes to move through the protocol and is specific to each individual.

The amount of reprocessing during the session will depend on:

  • Time spent during history taking, treatment planning, and resourcing

  • Selected target (memory/ experience)

  • Your own process of healing

Can EMDR be provided normally without an Intensive Session?

Of course! The majority of clients who choose EMDR prefer it in 55 minute “standard” therapy sessions. Intensive sessions are optional and can be interchanged throughout our time together.

Why should I consider an Intensive EMDR Therapy Session?

We don’t always want to sit in disturbing feelings or thoughts before, during, or after a long day of work or school. With full or partial day session, we can find a time that works for you. This allows for purposeful time without distraction for faster progress in a shorter period of time.

What will an EMDR Intensive Session look like?

EMDR Intensives can be in support of your ongoing individual therapist. They can also be provided by your primary therapist if deemed appropriate to your healing journey.

  • Prior to scheduling our intake, I request a free 15 minute consultation to determine if an intensive is a proper fit for you at this time.

  • If EMDR Intensives are in conjunction to your ongoing primary therapy, with consent, I can talk to your therapist to ensure supportive treatment.

  • Following that conversation, we will schedule a 90 minute Intensive Intake where we may:

    • Complete screenings

    • Assess for and/or learn coping skills (resourcing), gather history, and orient you to Bilateral Stimulation (BLS)

    • Start and finish treatment planning while selecting specific goals for treatment

    • Discuss and agree that EMDR Intensives are a good fit for you and review next steps

  • After the intake, we may decide to:

    • Schedule an extended (2 hour), half day (3 hour), or full day (6 hour) intensive therapy session

    • Refer back to your primary therapist or other EMDR providers if I am not the best fit for you
